In this portfolio, working with the artist Henri-Gabriel Ibels and the writer Georges Montorgueil, Lautrec created an ode to the café-concert. Montorgueil’s essay argued that café-concerts are places for people from all walks of life to relax and communicate. Lautrec’s images capture a cross-section of people involved in the Parisian nightlife.
This print represents Marcel Legay (1851-1915), a Montmartre singer and composer of nearly a thousand songs and one of the most sincere and passionate protagonists of the great era of Artistic Cabarets.
