Dario Cusani
On 9 July 2009 the supervisory court of Milan declared "Cusani Sergio rehabilitated from any incapacity and penal effect deriving from previous convictions". On that day, after 15 years, the TANGENTOPOLI era that began in 1994 with the trial that caused a political-economic earthquake in Italy ends. In fact, all the historic parties that had led the reconstruction of Italy after the war had disappeared. With my rehabilitated twin I could set up the Gabriele and Lidia Cusani ONLUS Foundation in memory of our parents. They had given us an example of ethical values and economic resources even if they had influenced our life choices (in 1964 I had to abandon my piano studies and my dream of becoming an orchestra director). The future was already decided: we had to work in Metalrame SpA, the industry created by my father after the war to rebuild all the destroyed electricity and railway lines! But in 1973 the industry was sold due to a bolt from the blue: my father's illness, Parkinson! We twins with economics degrees found ourselves without a future. I, passionate about communication and advertising, became a journalist and developed various initiatives in Naples. Instead, Sergio Gemello became interested in finance in Milan where he had moved to Bocconi University in 1966. In 1984 I moved with my family to Rome to contribute to the birth of the Reporter newspaper which lasted only 2 years. So at the beginning of 1986 I decided to dedicate myself to art as a profession even though it had already been my life partner at the Nunziatella military school since 1964! Thanks to the economic resources received from my parents, I concentrated on technical and artistic research which made me forget the entrepreneurial experiences I had. In 2009 I created the family foundation with my twin Sergio, carrying out important projects with music and art for school children in the abandoned suburbs of cities! In fact, I had brought EL SISTEMA to Italy, born in Venezuela in 1975 thanks to Josè Antonio Abreu and supported by the great Italian conductor Claudio Abbado.
Today 2024 I turn 60 years in art during which I have created over 7,000 works. But I never put them up for sale in the "art system" for fear of ruining that last chance at work (I sold them to collector friends). But now at 75 I feel much stronger than I did 60 years ago and I have accepted the challenge offered to me by Wallector. Also because the economic resources received from the parents are at a "little bit" and with the sales I want to reinvigorate the Foundation's projects (www.fondazionecusani.it. In fact I will pay the Foundation (under the control of the Italian State) 30% of the proceeds from the sales of the paintings I will use the rest to continue creating new artistic works and to support my family and my TWIN Sergio.
