Original title of the artwork:  Schlafende Diana .   The title is printed on the lower right corner.

The print was realized by  Johann Jacob Weber  and it is part of the series  Meisterwerke der Holzschneidekunst   (original title : SECHZEHN HOLZSCHNITTE NACH GEMÄLDEN ARNOLD BÖCKLIN (MEISTERWERKE DER HOLZSCHNEIDEKUNST, NEUE FOLGE HEFT V ) printed in 1898 and dedicated to  Arnold Böcklin .

This black and white xylograph represents Diana , goddess of hunting, lying asleep on a rock covered with moss green. Two goat divinities face each other, longing to contemplate the white and sensual body of the young hunter who appears languid and unaware, like a biblical Susanna. The two grotesque fauns, which sprout against a stormy sky, contrast the delicacy of the white girl.
