Piranesi,   ”Views of Rome drawn and etched by Giambattista Piranesi, Venetian Architect”  (1753)   t his wonderful Artist’s Proof with wide margins, representing the Port of Ripa Grande at the middle of XVIII century. With an interesting and detailed capture (on plate) pointing out the Ruins of antique monouments and buildings.

Piranesi, ”Views of Rome drawn and etched by Giambattista Piranesi, Venetian Architect” (1753)   t his wonderful Artist’s Proof with wide margins, representing the Port of Ripa Grande at the middle of XVIII century. With an interesting and detailed capture (on plate) pointing out the Ruins of antique monouments and buildings.

Background:

In 1740 Giovanni Battista Piranesi arrived in Rome for the first time and he was astonished by the Eternal City’s beauty. He served an apprenticeship before with the Valeriani’s workshop, and after with Giuseppe Vasi ’s one. The Sicilian engraver and vedutist teached him the etching technique, conveying his graphic art’s passion to the venetian old master.

Dalla raccolta di acqueforti “ Vedute di Roma, disegnate e incise da GiamBattista Piranesi, architetto veneziano” (1753), questa Splendida Prova d’artista ben impressa su carta filigranata con giglio entro doppio cerchio. Foglio a pieni margini che mostra il Porto di Ripa Grande.

Contesto storico:

Nel 1740 Piranesi arriva per la prima volta a Rome e rimane subito affascinato dai panorami della Città Eterna. Così inizia un apprendistato prima presso la bottega di Domenico e Giuseppe Valeriani, e poi uno dal vedutista siciliano, Giuseppe Vasi, che lo “iniziò” all’arte grafica, trasmettendogli la passione per le tecniche dell’incisione e dell’acquaforte.
