Vincenzo Gemito (Naples, 1852 – 1929) was an Italian sculptor and artist. His prolific artistic production brought him to the peak of his success at the Salons of Paris in 1876-77. His production includes drawings, terracotta figures, and many sculptures, all depicting Neapolitan folk scenes; among his main works, worthy of mention are the Pescatorello , the Acquaiolo (the original cast in silver is found at the Cenedese museum in Vittorio Veneto), the statue of Charles V on the facade of the Royal Palace of Naples, the Zingara , and many self-portraits.
