The Meeting (Original Italian title "L'Incontro" ) is a refined and minimal artwork realized by a great Italian artist of the XX Century in the 1940s. This is one of the typical works of this period. In 1942 he begins to write the first poetic verses published only in 1959. He also resumes his written reflections on art, on light-space and sends Vista nella studio to the XII biennial. In 1946, interested in graphics, he started his business by publishing a series of lithographs. Between 1947-'50 he created Marine in a scheme of pure color planes, and Figures in space, he returned to exhibit at the XXIV Venice Biennale and took part in the spatial movement, animated by Lucio Fontana. In 1949 he participated with some works in the Twentieth-Century Italian Art exhibition. Indeed from 1950 to 1955 his pictorial research proceeds through recurring thematic-compositional cycles: Figures in space, Anguish, Presences, Heads, Marines . It has, as for many years now, a personal room in the XXVII Venice Biennale. In 1959 he worked on Human Architecture, on Reflections of Time. Rebellato publishes in Padua the first volume collection of his lyrics, Spaces of existence. His pictorial research always proceeds in great thematic-compositional cycles.
This work has been realized by the Italian artist Virgilio Guidi (Rome, 1891 – 1984). He received his early training at the Scuola Libera di Pittura in Rome and in 1908 began working as a restorer and decorator. He continued his studies at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome, where he was influenced by Armando Spadini. During the decade after the war, Guidi painted modern subject matter in a tonality influenced by the Venetians, and gave his figures a timeless appearance by simplifying details of clothing and emphasizing volumes. Guidi exhibited in the first and second Novecento Italiano exhibitions in 1926 and 1929. He began teaching at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice. In 1933 he visited Paris for the first time. He had his first solo exhibition in Florence in 1932. After World War II, his work was increasingly abstract. In 1950 he became associated with Lucio Fontana and the Spazialismo movement.
