Rete Mediterranea - First Issue 1920

First issue of “Rete Mediterranea” , Vallecchi, Florence, 1920 ., including  b/W plates and illustrations. In Italian.

Quarterly Art and Literature Magine, entirely directed, written and illustrated by Ardengo Soffici   “Got out of War, I became a other man” - with these words the writer, poet, Italian futurist painter introduces himself to the readers in his Preliminary Declaration. A. Soffici meditates on Art, Literature, Philosophy, Politic and searches to answer to some questions as what might have been the new Italian political and artistic trend after the Great War? The Magazine includes some interesting articles as a Remy de Gourmont’s portrait with 7 unpublished original letters, “ Medardo Rosso ’ s drawings with 4 reproductions ”, “Pre-Raphaelism” , “Metaphysical Painting” , “ Bolshevism and Art ”, “ Hurray, the War!” , “ Ugo Foscolo’s plagiarism ”, “ A real Futurist ”.

A lot of subjects with which Soffici could take a certain detachment from Futurism and avant-gards , to embrace a classical style (in writing) and Fascim in politic. Infact in 1925 he signed the " Fascist Intellectual Manifesto" and receives for painting the " Mussolini’s Price" from the Accademia d’Italia in 1932.

Not very good condition : drypoints on cover and sleeves, a blu pencil signature and sketches on the cover, crumbled spine, browned paper on the edges, some worn edges. Cover detached from the paperback. Very Good inside.

Primo numero della rivista “Rete Mediterranea, Trimestrale di Arte e Letteratura, interamente diretta, scritta e illustrata da Ardengo Soffici, edita Vallecchi, Firenze. Con numerose tavole e illustrazioni in bianco e nero.

  “Sono uscito dalla guerra un altro uomo ”, così lo scrittore, saggista, poeta e pittore futurista italiano si presenta ai lettori, nella Dichiarazione Preliminare . Ardengo Soffici medita su arte, letteratura, filosofia, Politica e cerca di rispondere ad alcune domande:“ Quale sarebbe stato il nuovo orientamento delle forze pensanti e creative della nazione” dopo la Grande Guerra?.

 La Rivista contiene alcuni interessanti articoli quali: un ritratto di Remy de Gourmont con 7 lettere inedite , “ Disegni di Medardo Rosso” con 4 riproduzioni , “ Il Preraffaelismo”, “La pittura Metafisica”, “Il bolscevismo e l’arte”, “Evviva la Guerra!”, “Un plagio di Ugo Foscolo”, “Un vero futurista” .

Tanti argomenti con cui A. Soffici assume una posizione critica nei confronti del futurismo: Il Soffici che aveva fatto conoscere agli amici fiorentini Cézanne, i cubisti, Apollinaire, Rimbaud, si allontana dalle avanguardie per abbracciare uno stile decoroso e foscoliano classico e in politica aderisce al fascismo. Nel 1925 infatti firma il Manifesto degli intellettuali fascisti e riceve "Premio Mussolini" dell'Accademia d'Italia per la pittura nel 1932.

Buono stato all'interno. Non buono stato di conservazione all'esterno: copertina con fioriture e dorso lacero, una firma matita blu sulla copertina, ingiallimento della carta sui margini, qualche lembo consunto. Copertina staccata dalla brossura.
