Ardengo Soffici

Ardengo Soffici

(Rignano sull’Arno, 1879 – Vittoria Apuana di Forte dei Marmi, 1964)

Soffici was an Italian writer, painter, poet, sculptor and intellectual. In 1908, he moved to Milan and came into contact with the first progressivist and modernist fervors. He is an exponent of a non-Marinetti Futurism, calmer, less destructive and with a perspective always aimed towards reality. He gathers his theoretical writings on Futurism in the volume, “First Principles of Futuristic Aesthetics”. In the Twenties, he dedicated himself to the writing out of various essays on artists. In 1950, he published his study, “Thirty Modern Italian and Foreign Artists” and began working on a collection of all of his writings, which came out in five volumes between 1959-63 under the name, “Opere”.
