Very beautiful artwork representing the portrait of Aloys Senefelder, a German actor and playwright who invented the technique of lithography in 1798. The artwork represents many different portraits of Senefelder. At the top, there is a writing " Aloys Senefelder invented lithography 1798 ". The artwork presents four different portraits of Senefelder. In the center of the composition, there is the main portrait of Senefelder. At the bottom, there are three different portraits of the man. The background is composed by black shapes that recall the impressions of the lithographies.
Graham Sutherland (1903 – 1980) was an English painter, but also one of the most significant exponents of the English avant-garde. He studied the engraving technique at Goldsmiths’ College. In 1931, he specialized in painting. His earliest style, inspired by English Expressionism, was influenced by other European artistic movements, such as Abstract Expressionism, Cubism, and Surrealism. His artistic practice is a synthesis among these Expressionist experiences and his own fantasy: gloomy manifestations, formal contortions, linear expansions, landscape visions.
