Poetic and romantic work of art depicting several boats in the middle of a stormy sea with a sky full of rainy clouds. The work is characterized by a very contrasting and strong trait.

This work has been realized by the Italian engraver and artist Paolo Manaresi (1908 – 1991), one of the most important engraver in Italy during the XX Century. In 1945, he returned to Bologna as a teacher at Liceo Artistico. From 1949, encouraged by Giorgio Morandi, he dedicated himself to engraving. In 1950, he was invited to the Venice Biennale, where he returned in 1952. In the same year he held his first etching solo exhibition at the Cairolo Gallery in Milan.
In 1953, Carlo Alberto Petrucci, director of the National Calcography, ordered at the Roman institute an anthology of Manaresi's graphic work. In the same year, he became director at the Art Institute of Bologna. In 1954, he won the International Grand Prix for engraving at the XXVII Venice Biennale. From 1956 to 1958 he taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. In 1958, Giorgio Morandi wanted him as his successor in the chair of Engraving Techniques at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna.
