Illustrator and designer  George Barbier  (1882–1932) was one of the most influential figures of the Art Deco period in France. Beginning in 1912, Barbier regularly worked on designs for fashion magazines such as  Journal des Dames et des Modes  and  Gazette du Bon Ton . He also worked for the theater and cinema, designing the costumes worn by Rudolph Valentino in the 1924 Hollywood film  Monsieur
Beaucaire .
