Giuseppe De Nittis (Barletta, Italy, 1846 - Saint-Germain-en Laye, 1884), one of the most internationally renowned Italian painters , author of the unforgettable snapshots of the worldly and fashionable Paris of the late 19th century. From Barletta, his native land in the South of Italy, to the French capital and then to London, the artist’s attention was caught by the beauty of the natural landscapes, of the modern cities, and of the aristocratic parlors. De Nittis was fascinated by the female charme; indeed, women were among his favorite subjects: he portrayed them in big parks or along the “ boulevards ”, inside of parlors or middle-class houses. Friend of Manet and Degas, De Nittis was a personal and poetical interpreter of Impressionism.
