Charming original drypoint on ivorycoloured plate realized by Giuseppe De Nittis between 1870 and 1880. Signed on plate lower left margin, not numbered and in perfect conditions. Including passpartout (cm 49 x 34).

The artwork represents a three-quarter female figure with an elegant dress and a gorgeous headgear. Thanks to the supply and diversified strokes, De Nittis obtains vibrating and velvety black shades of black; the strong chiaroscuro contrast between the background and the figure is replaced by a more delicate shadowing obtained with hasty and vibrating strokes which become thicker only in a few contrasting areas. The face of the young model is plump and seems surprised.

Giuseppe De Nittis (1846) is an excellent drawer and illustrator representing the lifestyle at the end of XIX century. In 1864 founded the "resina" or "porticiSchool" and then moved to Paris and London. The artist is famousexpeciallyfor the freshness and the refined lines.
