This etching comes from an oil portrait of Berthe Morisot which Manet executed in 1872. There are other two etched versions of this painting.

This version is smaller in scale and the image is reversed as compared with that in the oil.

Berthe Morisot was a French painter, one of the most important exponents of the Impressionism. She was also a Manet's model between 1869 and 1874.
