On the back of the artwork, news about different artists.
Edouard Manet (1832-1883): Édouard Manet is considered one of the greatest painters in the entire history of art. Although he refused to join the group of Realists and - subsequently - to exhibit together with the Impressionists, he was a fundamental trait d'union between Realism and Impressionism: it was an absolutely unique episode, independent of any movement, but which played a key role in paving the way for contemporary painting. As noted by the critic Georges Bataille in 1955, «the name of Manet has, in painting, a different meaning. Manet [...], at odds with those who preceded him, opened the period in which we live, agreeing with the world of today, which is ours; in dissonance with the world in which he lived, which he scandalized ».
