Subject Abstract

Prisma is an original artwork realized by Max Bill in 1975. Colored lithograph on paper. Very good conditions.

The artwork is a typical composition realized by Max Bill during the 1970s. The central shape is composed by different colored geometrical prisms; the colors are brilliant and phosphorescent. Bill's compositions are interesting for the bright colors. The artwork is characterized by clarity of forms and by perfect proportions.

Max Bill (1908 – 1994) was a Swiss architect, painter, and sculptor. He studied at Zurigo and at the Bauhaus of Dessau. He is one of the most important exponents of Concrete Art, and was able to elaborate a strictly coherent language, whose geometric structure uses a logical matrix to organize simplified forms. According to Max Bill, the creation corresponds to abstract ideas, perceivable in a sensorial way through colors, space, and light. His artworks are creative forms that aim at representing the New Physics of the early 20th century. He sought to create objects to let the senses understand the new science of form.
