Massimo Campigli was born in Berlin in 1895, under the name Max Ihlenfeld. He changed his name and asked for Italian nationality at the beginning of XXe century. He showed interest in paintings but also in prints, mainly lithography. Léger and Picasso were major influences on his early work, but after the 1920's, he abandoned persepective and represented mainly women and two-dimensional.
