Autograph Letter by Zygmunt Wilhelm Birnbaum
Autograph letter signed, dated Dec. 3, 1964 by the Ukrainian mathematician and statistician Zygmunt Wilhelm Birnbaum (Lviv, 1903 - Seattle, 2000).
Birnbaum addresses a colleague, concerning the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test: “…The only reference to the problem of Kolmogorov’s statistic for discrete distributions known to me is: Paul Schmid: “On the Kolmogorov and Smirnov limit theorems for discontinuous distribution functions” (…) This paper by Schmid stresses mainly the limit theorems and I believe that it does not answer the problem for finite sample sizes as you have formulated it in the seminar of November 24…” .
