Lioness

Lioness   is a beautiful pencil drawing on ivory-colored paper, realized in the 1940s by the German artist Wilhelm Lorenz , also known as Willi Lorenz . Signed in pencil on the lower right margin.

A fierce lioness is portrayed in profile in her typical royal and elegant posture while resting. This amazingly realistic drawing was realized with a fat pencil and a sure touch.

Wilhelm (Willi) Lorenz  (Germany, 1901–1981)

Wilhelm Lorenz, also known as Willi Lorenz, was a German painter specialized in paintings of animals typically hunted as a game. His highly detailed oil paintings evoke the texture and movement of animals like boars, foxes, buffalos, and lions, depicted in their natural habitats and attitudes. His artworks resemble the works by Max Josef Hänger Lorenz. Willi Lorenz attended the Düsseldorf Academy of Art before moving to Cologne to start his artistic career.
