Ben Shahn (Kovno, 1898 - New York, 1969) was an American painter, photographer and designer of Lithuanian origins. He exhibited his works at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1954. In 1984, the Japanese magazine Idea placed him among the thirty most influential artists of the twentieth century. Ben Shahn worked on social and political issues throughout his artistic life. From 1935, he worked as a photographer with Walker Evans and Dorothea Lange in the Farm Security Administration and documented people's living and working conditions in the American countryside during the years of the Great Depression.
