Well of the Ducal Palace is an excellent artwork realized in the Second half of the XIX Century that depicts a well that is located in the Ducal Palace in Venice with a female figure on the right side. The well is decorated with sculptures and other decorations that gives to it a great wealth.
This work has been realized by the Italian artist Luigi Beltrami (Genoa 1855 - 1933). He initially attended the Brera Academy, which he abandoned to follow Camillo Boito in the Higher Technical Institute. In 1876, he moved to the Paris School of Fine Arts and dedicated himself to study trips. He came back to Milan two years later and became a professor of architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts and then at the Polytechnic. Famous in the field of restoration, he is responsible for much of the current appearance of Piazza della Scala in Milan. It created the most important buildings on the sides not occupied by the Theater: Palazzo Beltrami (1886), Palazzo de La Permanente (1886), Palazzo Marino facade (1888-1892), Palazzo della Banca Commerciale (1923-1927) . He also carried out numerous restorations of medieval and Renaissance buildings (Castello Sforzesco in Milan, Rocca Sforzesca in Soncino, bell tower of San Marco in Venice). Other famous works include the Central Synagogue of Milan (1892) and the New headquarters of Corriere della Sera (1904).
