Fresh and beautiful artwork representing a view on the city of Odessa, in Russia. The work is a beautiful tempera on paper but is enriched with strokes of gouache. The work is outstanding in its simplicity and clearness; the urban landscape is characterized by clear strokes of tempera.

The work was realized by Carlo Bossoli  (Davesco-Soragno, 1815 - Turin, 1884), a Swiss-born Italian painter and scenographer. He lived in Lugano, then he moved to Odessa in Russia where he learned the art of drawing. Princess Woronzow, who was in Odessa, called Bossoli because she wanted to see the artist's abilities. Thanks to this, Bossoli was able to go to Italy, in 1839, to refine his preparation. He achieved international fame with his paintings reminiscent of the Risorgimento wars. Prince Eugene of Savoy commissioned him the famous 105 tempera dedicated to the war of the years 1859, 1860 and 1861, which can still be seen in the Museum of Risorgimento in Turin.
