Toward Rest  is an original drawing in pen realized by Gabriele Galantara ,  Titled in Italian on the lower right " Verso il Riposo"

The state of preservation of the artwork is good, except for some missing paper at the top margins and diffused foxing.

The admirable, tragic artwork represents the scenery of a long line of crowd, and in the right perspective a sign of cross represents the cemetery, the figures have strong heaviness and exhausted in their expression created masterly through confident strokes, a dramatic expression of death.

Gabriele Galantara (1867-1937), journalist and one of the major Italian caricaturists and satirical designers. The Donkey was a political satire magazine in 1892, the year of the first Giolitti ministry and the establishment of the Italian Socialist Party, The magazine was conceived by Guido Podrecca,and by Gabriele Galantara,  brilliant cartoonist and puppeteer , also a socialist. The two assumed the pseudonyms of "Goliardo" (Podrecca) and "Rata Langa" (Galantara), and with these nicknames, they signed the issues of the weekly.
