The Viola is an original litography realized by Marc Chagall (1972).

Very beautiful colors and very good conditions except for a little tears on the left margin, Maeght edition.

Marc Chagall (1887-1985) was a Russian-French painter of Hasidic Jewish origin. When he became known as an artist, in 1910 Chagall left Saint Petersburg for Paris to approach the artistic community of Montparnasse.  Here he soon settled at the Ruche and befriended Guillaume Apollinaire, Robert Delaunay, Fernand Léger and Eugeniusz Zak;   however, he maintained a certain skepticism towards Cubism, considering it too "realist" and attached to the physical side of things, while he felt more attracted «to the invisible side, that of form and spirit, without which the external truth is not complete».
