The Shepherd

The Shepherd is an original artwork realized in the 1960s by Italian artist Pietro Morando (Alessandria 1889- 1980).

The artwork represents two shepherd men, with colorful cloths, through deft strokes, the drawing of figures have an authentic style of Morando, harmonious and poetic, recall of simplicity of the tradition.  Pietro Morando  (Alessandria 1889- 1980). He occasionally studies at the Albertina Academy in Turin; a scholarship (1913) allows him to enroll in painting courses at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. He meets Angelo Morbelli whose studio he frequents and temporarily shares the passion for pointillism.His love for drawing led him to produce numerous works, even using the poor means of luck that the First World War allowed him. He thus realizes tragic war drawings (almost a reportage) which will then be published in the volume "The Giants", with the presentation of the sculptor Leonardo Bistolfi of Casale Monferrato. For decades he frequented the Milanese studio of Carlo Carrà, with whom he shares, as well as friendship, also comparisons and cultural exchanges in the field of painting. It stands out for its simple and incisive style and intense color and decisive features, with which it gives strength and life, but also poetry, to its subjects, almost always the poor people, porters, and peasants, as well as glimpses of his city and Monferrato countryside.He exhibits at the Turin Promoter since 1920 and participates in the Rome Quadriennale and the Milan Triennale. He exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 1924, 1926, 1928, 1932, 1934, 1948, 1950, 1956. The exhibitions at the promoter of the fifties were held together with the younger Alexandrian Franco Sassi, a pupil of Bozzetti and a great admirer of the painter in question.
