Alfonso Avanessian   (Teheran, 1932 - Rome, 2009) was an Iranian-born Italian painter. Born in Teheran in 1932 from a wealthy family of Armenian origin, Catholic, he arrived in Italy in 1948 driven by a passion for art, to study and paint, managing to be admitted to the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, where he became a favorite pupil of Amerigo Bartoli. Almost involuntarily, he became part of the final phase of the pictorial current of the "Roman School", as can be seen from some of his works of the fifties and sixties. He has exhibited often in Rome and in many Italian places; in 1958, he participated at the Venice Biennale with Sora Rosa (private collection). Queen Elizabeth would have received a picture of her as a gift through diplomatic channels; his paintings are part of Collections by public and private bodies.
