The Courtesan  is an original print realized in the beginning of the XIX century by  Keisai Eisen .

This is a mixed colored xylograph . Includes a passepartout: 49 x 36.5 cm.

Good conditions, except for little holes on the sheet.

Original title:  Nihonzutsumi no rakugan tamaya uchi Tamagushi .

The p rint shows Tamagushi , a courtesan in a full-length portrait, with several hairpins, seated, reading a scroll; the picture hanging on the wall above her shows geese descending from the Nihon embankment.

Keisai Eisen  (1790–1848) was a Japanese ukiyo-e artist who specialised in pictures of beautiful women. His best works are considered to be masterpieces of the "decadent" Bunsei Era (1818–1830). He was also known as Ikeda Eisen, and wrote under the name of Ippitsuan.
