Precocious talented artist, Renato Guttuso (Bagheria, Sicily, 1911 – Rome, 1987), wrote this postcard during his three-year stay in Milan, where he left for military service and had the opportunity to meet Manzù, Birolli, Fontana, Antonio Banfi. In this fervid environment, his social art took shape from a moral and political engagement more and more evident in artworks like “Fucilazione in Campagna ” 1937, “Fuga dall’Etna”, “Vucciria” , finally consecrated in the maximum expression of  Social Realism  like in “La Spiaggia ” (1955) and “ Carretti in Bagheria” (1956). One year after this postcard, he moved to Rome where he got closer to artists like Birolli, Fontana and Persico.
