Beautiful pair of sculptures depicting winged griffins facing. The sculptures are made in bas-relief on Turkish pieces of marble: they are cold white with grayish veins. The two pieces were probably bases placed under two columns; the figures of griffins and winged lions, in fact, were often placed as a base for the columns since the early medieval period. In the Romanesque period, in Europe, the figure of the stylophorus lions were placed in the arcades of the churches and in front of the gates. The faces of the griffins are very well sculpted, just as the wings are well defined; in some places it almost seems like a high relief.
