Ben Nicholson (1894 – 1982) was an English painter. He studied at the Slade Art School of London, then in Tours, in Milan and in Pasadena (USA). He exhibited his paintings at the most important international expositions and in 1954 he won the Ulysses award at the Venice Biennial. His paintings are totally abstract, and their forms present an internal order, as in a musical composition. In 1945, his style became more flexible, depicting natural objects through classical harmony.
