On the back of the artwork, news about the artist Eugene Isabey.
Eugène Louis Gabriel Isabey (Paris, July 22, 1803 - Paris, April 27, 1886) was a French painter and engraver. He was the son of the famous engraver Jean-Baptiste Isabey; uncle of the French painter and engraver Eugène Cicéri (the latter's mother was his sister), he was also his teacher.
He studied and worked at the Louvre Museum. In the first phase of his career he dealt with landscapes and views, making a long journey to Normandy and Brittany in search of subjects (1820). Isabey participated in the French expedition to Algeria as an illustrator. The success of his works convinced him to also deal with historical subjects. He was court painter of Louis Philippe of France. He had as a pupil the famous marine painter Jean-Baptiste Henri Durand-Brager.
