Henri-Charles Toussaint (Paris, 1849 - 1911) was a French painter, illustrator, and etcher, who gained his highest reputation thanks to his architectural studies of Paris, of French provinces, and of Oxford and Cambridge. Toussaint was the pupil of Gaucherel and Andre in Paris, though he learnt etching with Brunet-Desbaines. He exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1874 and, in the following years, he received numerous awards, including medals from the Exposition Universelle in 1876, 1884, 1899, and 1900. Charles Toussaint’s architectural etchings were well-known in both England and his native country, France.
