Et sur la terre
This wonderful volume is the result of the collaboration between artists and old friends: Marc Chagall and Andrè Malraux , winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, warrior of the Resistance against the Nazi regime and Minister of Culture under Charles de Gaulle government. The work is an elaboration of a previous unpublished text written by Malraux in 1939, based on his memories and personal experiences during the Spanish Civil War, fighting on the Republican side against the dictatorship of Franco and his Fascist and Nazi allies. Richly illustrated with 15 beautiful black and white etchings and aquatints by Marc Chagall .
This book was published by Maeght Editeur in Paris in 1977, in an edition of 205 copies on velin d'Rives, numbered 1 to 205, signed on the colophon. The first 25 portfolios contained an additional impression on the frontispiece, signed and numbered by Chagall. The copper plates were canceled after having been printed by Jacques Frélaut and Roger Lacourière.
