This surrealist etching is plate III of the volume " Signes de survie au temps d'amour " by Guy Rosey.

Reference : This artwork has been reproduced on the general catalogue of the grafic work of the artist Kaplan-Baum (n.15). This etching is stamped signed "Magritte" with the artist's stamp-signature on the lower right margin.

René Magritte  was a Belgian artist, and one of the most influential members of Surrealism. His paintings are clever and ironic, and he is popular for his illusionistic images that challenge the viewer on their interpretations.

The Kaplan Baum Catalogue raisonné of his prints lists only 2 lithographs and 18 etchings. The artist began them in other media and then made graphic works of them. They were all created during the last eight years of the artist's life (until 1968). Many etchings were eventually published with a stamped signature.
