Il Tevere col Cornucopia e Lupa
Tevere col Cornucopia e Lupa (Tiber river with Romulus and Remus) is a wonderful original burin on laid and watermarked paper, engraved by Claude Randon (1674-1704) and published in Rome in 1704 by Domenico de Rossi (1647-1729).
The original title of the plate is in Italian Il Tevere col cornucopia nella sinistra, e con la lupa accanto che allatta Romolo, e Remo .
With some visible signs of the time, usual yellowing of the paper at the edges and visible stains, the original print, representing the Roman Tiber river as a classical statue with a cornucopia and the mythological wolf with the twins founders of Rome, is in very good conditions, with lifetime impressions.
At the center of the sheet is visible the watermark of the paper: a florentin lily in a double circle.
