Egon Schiele

Egon Schiele (Tulln, 1890 - Wien, 1918) was a very famous Austrian painter and one of the most important exponents in the early XX century. His artworks are famous especially for their intensity and their sensuality; the artist produced many portraits, including naked self-portraits. He can be considered one of the most important exponents of Expressionism for the bodies and their expressive contour lines. In 1909, he abandoned the Academy of Fine Arts and founded the Neukunstgruppe with some friends. In 1910, he moved to a little village with the model Wally Neuzil, searching for inspiration. Schiele's work has been considered pornographic, disturbing and focused on sex: this caused some troubles to the artist during his life. In 1914, Edith Harms became his wife and his muse. She has been represented in some famous artworks of the artist.
