This wonderful modern artwork representing a German urban and historical view has the title in capital letters engraved on the lower margin at the center, " Der Hagenmarkt mit der Catharinenkirche zu Braunschweig ", and the inscriptions on plate report the authors and the publishing house on the lower margin: " W. Pätz del. / Druck u. Verlag von G.G. Lange in Durmstadt / in Stahl gestochen von J. Poppel ".

In excellent conditions, except for a usual yellowing of the paper on the lower margin, this original print is watercolored with harmonic colors and a sure touch, including a cream-colored cardboard passepartout, cm 30 x 36.

Johann Poppel (Hammer near Nuremberg, 1807 - Ammerland on Lake Starnberg, 1882)

The German landscape painter was a student of the Nuremberg Art School under Friedrich Johann M. Geißler. He learned engraving from Carl Ludwig Frommel in Karlsruhe. He worked in London in 1832 with William Tombleson, in 1833 in Karlsruhe, from 1834 in Nuremberg and from 1838 in Munich.

Wilhelm Pätz (Brunswick, 1800 - Bückeburg, 1856)

The German landscape painter and lithographer was active in 1838 in Dusseldorf, later in Bückeburg. He etched excellent views of Switzerland, Harz and the Netherlands.
