Costume Sketch
Costume Sketch is a beautiful original gouache on ivory-colored paper realized by the French costume designer, painter and illustrator Pierre Eugène Lacoste (1818-1908) in the occasion of a theatrical spectacle, an opera by Giuseppe Verdi .
Hand-signed and hand-dated in brown ink on the lower left margin " Eugène Lacoste Fevrier 1879 ".
Demonstrating a full mastery of the technique and incredible draftsmanship (take a look at the drapery and the lace of the dress), this modern artwork is in good conditions, except for some discolorations, a usual yellowing of the paper and light but diffused foxing. These defects do not affect the image that has preserved its beauty and the brightness of colors.
