The artwork is an interesting representation of a cathedral facade on a red background. Gentilini realized an important series about cathedrals and buildings. The use of bright colors is interesting, especially for the backgrounds.
Franco Gentilini (Faenza, 1909 - Roma, 1981) was a famous Italian painter. He started working as an apprentice in a woodcarver shop. In 1932, he moved to Rome where he met artists and writers of Caffè Aragno (Cagli, Mucci, Falqui, Sinisgalli, de Libero), starting long collaborations with them in the illustration of their texts and poems. The themes of his works are cathedrals, baptisteries, jugglers and itinerant players, landscapes with irregular perspectives, women characterized by ankle boots with spool heels, bicycles, trucks, cats and lions.
