Cathedral of S. Crisogono

Cathedral of S. Crisogono is a unique piece by Franco Gentilini realized in the 1950s.

Mixed media on paper canvas. Hand-signed on the lower right.

Certificate of authenticity provided by the widow of the artist on photography. Rare and authentic piece in bright colors realized by the Italian master of the 20th century.

Franco Gentilini (Italian Painter, 1909-1981). Gentilini started his artistic apprenticeship in the context of the Italian culture between the Second World War and the postwar period. The artist perfected his technical skills by combining painting and drawing on a preparatory material background mixed with sand. The themes of his works are cathedrals, baptisteries, jugglers and buskers, landscapes with irregular perspectives, women characterized by ankle boots with spool heels, bicycles, trucks, cats and lions. Gentilini is an artist representing the "joie de vivre", despite the fact that in recent years he portrayed a world shattered by the Second World War.

Since the mid-fifties Gentilini's research has been directed towards an essential geometric stylization, looking for a new and personal compositional balance through the use of overturned perspectives and skewed planes. In 2009 several retrospectives were held in public spaces to celebrate the centenary of the artist's birth (Pericle Fazzini Museum, Assisi and Museo della Permanente, Milan) organized largely by his wife Luciana Giuntoli who is also the curator of the artist's archive.
