Carnet de Voyage
Carnet de Voyage is a wonderful original illustrated album by the Russian artist Ivan Sermoskin (1889?-1963?). A beautiful manuscript with original blue ink and marker sketches representing the uses and customs of the native Americans, the Sioux Indians .
This ancient sketchbook of 46 pages includes a final watercolored sketch concerning the history of the Indian Sioux with references to Charles Alexander Eastman and Frederick Weygold’s production. Dated and titled " Urgeuya " on the paper cover “ Liepaja pirmd 1.IX.1958.g. ”. The notes are in various languages believed to be Russian, Latvian, or German. The drawings are individually dated 1910, 1925, and 1958.
In excellent conditions, except for a usual yellowing of the paper and some rare discolorations of the ink. The carnet is not binded and there are some sporadic little holes along the medial folds.

We have insufficient information about the author's biography. Ivan Sermoski was a painter of animals, born in Russia. Also known to have lived in Estonia, and member of the Imperial Academy of Arts. After the Russian Revolution in 1917, he emigrated to Latvia, where he signed his work as Jan Sermosky .
