Amintore Fanfani (1908 -1999) was an Italian politician, historian and academic. He was three times president of the Senate, six times president of the Council of Ministers between 1954 and 1987. he became the oldest Head of the Government of the Italian Republic, twice secretary of the Christian Democracy and also president of the party, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Interior and the Budget and Economic Planning. From 1972 he was senator for life.
His political action was important because he is considered, together with Aldo Moro, Pietro Nenni, Giuseppe Saragat and Ugo la Malfa, one of the architects of the political turn of the center-left, with which the Christian Democrats wanted to take advantage of the governmental collaboration of the Italian Socialist Party.
