A Monk is an original charcoal drawing on paper, realized by the French artist  Joseph Bernard (1866-1931), between the end of the XIX century and the beginning of the XX century.

Representing a young monk in profile with a chubby face and the typical rapid line of a sketch, this modern artwork has a blue-ink stamp on the lower margin: "Atelier J. Bernard".

In excellent conditions, except for a little restoration of a rip of the paper visible on the back and on the higher margin.

Joseph Bernard (1866-1931)

Joseph Bernard was a modern classical French sculptor, featured on the frontispiece of Elie Faure's 1927 survey of modern art  Spirit of Forms . Bernard was trained at the École des Beaux-Arts and Pierre-Jules Cavelier's atelier.
