Fischer was son of an engraver and pupil of Heinrich Ramberg, the fashionable court painter, by whom he was employed in painting portraits, theatrical scenery, and generally assisting his master. Coming to England in 1810, he worked mainly in London and executed portraits of the English aristocracy and nobles, including Queen Victoria and Queen Charlotte. He is now best known for his portrait miniatures but he occasionally exhibited landscapes in watercolours, like this beautiful Church of George Windsor’s Castle.
