The artwork is part of the artist's studies on paper. The study focuses on the chiaroscuro that is created by the different cadences of light. The light on the face comes from below, but the shadow created under the head contrasts with it, becoming almost a nemesis and leaving possible depictions beyond the borders of the paper to the imagination. The artist also chooses to depict a non-neutral facial expressiveness, thus giving the character a preeminent pathos.
