Still Life, Homage to Matisse
Four pieces of fruit on a off-white background painted in a expressionistic manor as an homage to Henri Matisse.
This painting is not stretched on a frame and can be framed flat.
Henri Matisse fascinated me with his ability to capture fruit in its essence.
Not like a hyper realism photo-like oil painting, his still life was an expression of the life within.
In this small, simple, oil on canvas still life from 1986 I tried to find the same essence from the fruit I got from Aldi in Düsseldorf while visiting the art academy there.
The darker outline and expressionistic painting of the fruit presented on a off-white canvas setting highlight the vibrancy and depth of the subjects.
The canvas is not mounted on a stretcher frame so it can be framed flat behind glass or it can be stretched on a frame.
