Auguste Bigand born in Champlan on June 2 , 1803 and died at Versailles on January 3 , 1875 is a French painter. He was very close to the city of Avignon and made numerous donations to the Calvet museum in this city. Auguste Bigand, without having revolutionized painting, is a skilled practitioner, within the limits of his talents. If he tackled worldly portraits and historical portraits, still lifes and genre subjects; however, it seems to have had some success with an ecclesiastical clientele. Indeed, many of his religious subjects exhibited at the Salons are reported as sold there. This proves that several religious institutions, churches, chapels or convents must still adorn themselves with paintings by Bigand.
