Jean Jaurès Letter

Signed letter in French of the French Socialist leader Jean Jaurès, dated Paris le 7bre 1905.

Jean Jaurès was the editor of the newspaper L’Humanité (1904-1914). In this letter he regrets for not being able to attend to the 1905 Art Congress in Venice as he is very busy with “…une tournée électorale dans ma circonscription que je dois faire…”. He concludes acknowledging the theme and purpose of his invitation for that year Congress: “…vous traiterez certainement mieux que moi le beau sujét 'l’ésprit social dans l’Art' que vous me proposiez…” . Jaurès mentions the 1906 elections in the little municipality of Valdériès in Le Tarn department, where he was running for the legislative elections against the conservative marquis de Solages.
