The nudes and portraits were among Feltrinelli's favorite works and recall the period of the "roaring twenties" after the First World War. The work is accompanied by a contemporary wooden frame and is in excellent condition. Antonio Feltrinelli (
Milan, 1887 - Gargnano, 1942) Antonio Feltrinelli was born in Milan on 1 June 1887 to Giovanni Feltrinelli, nephew of Giacomo, founder of the Feltrinelli company. Feltrinelli was not only a leading figure in the Italian economic and financial field, but was
also a painter, who characterized himself as a strong, impetuous and warm colourist, who favored still lifes, portraits and landscapes. He began his career in 1930 at the Permanente in Milan, where he exhibited a portrait and a still life which earned him
the Fornara prize. In the same year, Feltrinelli exhibited at the Venice Biennale and at the Pesaro Gallery in Milan. Together with other important avant-garde artists, he participates in several foreign exhibitions on modern Italian painting. He was varied
and eclectic, full of inspiration and attracted by all the art, history and life that he believed could become a colorful painting, and for this reason he tried his hand at the most difficult subjects to paint. These paintings portray the admiration of him and the
deepest worship of him through the use of impetuous colors, which suit his exceptional temperament. He chose risky themes and his drawings were messy, violent and full of colour. Feltrinelli's artistic persona was openly opposed to his physical and
social persona. He was well educated, reserved and quiet, and had a prominent social position in society. This artist, observer and thinker, came down from his luxurious studio as if he were coming down from an attic. He was enthusiastic and tormented
by the art that seemed to want to take his life away. His love for the arts and sciences pushed him to use his personal wealth to finance a large Italian cultural institution "similar to the Nobel Foundation". Furthermore, Antonio Feltrinelli made the Italian
Academy the heir to his assets and arranged for an inalienable and perpetual fund to be created to reward work, education and intelligence.
