Sculptural Shell Floor Lamp
An elegant and highly sculptural floor lamp designed by Marika Carniti during the 1970s, distinguished by its organic shell-like silhouette and atmospheric illumination. Executed in translucent fiberglass, the lamp embodies the biomorphic aesthetic characteristic of Italian design in the postmodern and radical design period.
The organically curved form rises from a substantial travertine plinth, creating a striking contrast between the soft, fluid contours of the shade and the geometric solidity of the stone base. When illuminated, the semi-translucent body emits a warm amber glow, accentuating the material’s natural marbling and handcrafted texture while producing a soft ambient light.
The work demonstrates Carniti’s interest in natural forms and sculptural presence, functioning equally as lighting object and decorative sculpture. Its commanding scale and dramatic profile make it particularly suitable for sophisticated interior settings and collectible design environments.
The lamp retains its original foot switch and electrical system.
Presented in very good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. The sculptural body shows scattered surface scratches, abrasions, and minor edge wear, particularly visible to the upper section and along the contours. The travertine base displays light natural imperfections and minor marks. Illumination functioning at the time of photography.
